 Charsadda, Pakistan A baby lies motionless in the midst of the commotion.Hajira Bibi, her mother, flits between checking on the 10-day-old girl, who has yet to be named, and trying to clean away the ankle-high slush left in her home by the cataracts that forced her family to sanctum on the hard shoulder of a highway.

"I took her on the highway when she was only four days old. She was so small, "Ms Bibi told AFP about their weekend evacuation. "She was sick, and her eyes hurt, and she had a fever, and my baby was in serious trouble because of the heat.
